The Award Ceremony of the European Solar Prizes 2008 took place on December 3rd, 2008, in the Berlin office of the KfW Bankengruppe. Jürgen Fliege, theologian and publicist, presented the laureates. EUROSOLAR-President Hermann Scheer handed over the Solar Prizes.

In October 2006, EUROSOLAR and the World Council for Renewable Energy started the first of a new international conference series themed “International Renewable Energy Storage Conference“ (IRES). It is intended to contribute to the developments in energy storage and to publicize their application. With a huge success the third conference took place in Berlin, November 24-25, 2008.

Through the storage of solar thermal energy, solar-generated electricity and wind power groundbreaking opportunities will emerge for the dynamic exploitation of Renewable Energies in manifold energy-autonomous forms, in residential construction and by and for enterprises, residential developments, cities, regions and countries. Herein also lies the chance of achieving numerous technological innovations along with new prospects for the industries.

The first European Conference Solar Energy in Architecture and Urban Planning, initiated by the European Commission, took place in Munich in 1987. At the five subsequent conferences – Paris, 1989; Florence, 1993; Berlin 1996; Bonn, 1998 and 2000 – the concepts and ideas of a direct use of solar energy in buildings and for urban development were constantly enhanced.
