US Secretary of State reaffirms commitment to IRENA

On the news published by the International Renewable Energy Agency, IRENA, on the visit paid by the US Secretary of State to the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi, EUROSOLAR managing director Irm Pontenagel said:

"We welcome the statements expressed by Hillary Clinton and Adnan Amin, Acting Interim Director-General of IRENA, and the emphasis placed on the importance of IRENA."

Irm Pontenagel reminds us that the idea of the International Renewable Energy Agency came from Hermann Scheer. He and EUROSOLAR have campaigned for its establishment for twenty years - set out in the background documentation "The Long Road To IRENA". "We have wished for IRENA to gain such international attention" Ms Pontenagel said, and "EUROSOLAR and the World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE) will support and bear witness to its work."
