The Award Ceremony took place on December 11th, 2009, in the Berlin branch of the KfW Bankengruppe. Erik Bettermann, Director General of Deutsche Welle, delivered the laudation. EUROSOLAR President and recipient of the Right Livelihood Award Dr Hermann Scheer presented the prizes to the winners.

Created by EUROSOLAR in 1994, the European Solar Prize has since rewarded towns, companies, individuals and organisations every year for outstanding service rendered to the utilization and applications of renewable energy in all its available forms. The recipients are celebrated for outstanding projects, initiatives and innovation.
