Building a New CenturyEdited by EUROSOLAR, 1999, 468 pages, complete proceedings of the 5th European Conference Solar Energy in Architecture and Urban Planning, Bonn 1998 (English/German), ISBN 3-933745-03-9

The 21st century has to be the age of a new integration of labour and living, ecology and economy, technology and culture. Architecture and urban planning are key factors in this scheme. 40 percent of the energy use takes plae in buildings and 15 percent in urban traffic resulting in hight economic and social running costs. Solar energy in architecture and urban planning therefore ist he crucial task as well as the biggest chance for creating an ecological 21st century.

Continuing the process of the former four conferences on Solar Energy in Architecture and urban Planning - mainly the third one in 1993 in Florence (general chairman Hermann Scheer, architectural chairman Sir Norman Foster) and 1996 in Berlin (general chairman Minister Klaus Töpfer, architectural chairman Thomas Herzog), we would like to invite you to participate in the fifth conference under the motto "Building a New Century".

The conference adresses to architects, urban planners, building-engineers, clients and companies as well as to policy makers, mainly on the municipal level, to users and teachers. It will be a motivation to take part in this project for the coming new century. We want the conference to offer practical impulses. It shall base on a blueprint "Building a New Century", defining the future tasks of building an urban planning programme.
