 EUROSOLAR/IPPNW background paper, published in August 2004 Nuclear power stations are being run on a limited supply of raw material uranium. Natural uranium is extracted from underground mines, surface mines or from the so-called in-situ solution procedure and comes mainly from Canada, Australia, Nigeria and Namibia. Smaller amounts are furthermore provided by Uzbekistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, the USA and the EU. |
