In October 2006, EUROSOLAR and the World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE) hosted the First of a new International Conference Series themed “The case of energy autonomy: Storing Renewable Energies” (IRES I). It is intended to contribute to the developments in energy storage and to publicize their application. IRES I was a great success last year, both in terms of topics selected and approval on the part of the attendees. Some 230 persons discussed at Wissenschaftspark Gelsenkirchen about new energy storage technologies in the heat and electricity sectors.

IRES I attendees were particularly enthusiastic about the wide range of storage technologies addressed. At IRES II this year, already accomplished storage solutions will be one of the central topics on the agenda. Venue will be the “Wasserwerk”, located next and connected to the former plenary chamber of the German Bundestag, where, at the same time, the World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE) will convene for its annual assembly, together with the World Renewable Energy Parliamentary Network. All three events take place at the invitation of Hermann Scheer. To combine them, promises to produce a special effect of synergy in the form of exchange of information and discussion among all attendees.

IRES II exhibitors will be able to present their companies in the foyer of the former plenary chamber. Joint break periods, with food and drink being served in the former canteen for the parliament members, will provide for the ideal setting to that effect.
