Project Commitment to an energy supply free of nuclear energy and CO2-emissions in the Nord-Pas de Calais

virageenergy_200x150.jpgSince its foundation two years ago, the Virage-énergie association, supported by French energy experts, has been developing a well-grounded study for the Nord-Pas de Calais that will pave the way to an energy supply 100 % based on renewable energy. In so doing, Virage-énergie refutes the claim that nuclear energy is indispensable for a secure energy supply.

The study’s area of investigation corresponds to the northernmost part of France with over 4 million inhabitants. Virage-énergie is financed by contributions from the almost 100 members of the association as well as donations from independent environmental and energy policy organisations.

As the results of the study attracted public attention, Virage-énergie had the opportunity to present its energy scenario/scenario analysis at the National Energy Conference 2008 in Dunkerque. This helped to create broader awareness among citizens, local actors in the fields of energy, administration and related corporations as well as political decision-makers. Besides the publication of the above-mentioned survey, the association pursues comprehensive public relations, e.g. by maintaining its own homepage, organising discussions and disseminating information.

Virage-énergie, which is literally translated as ‘energy curve’, lives up to its name. As a courageous and committed pioneer, the association has initiated an about-turn in the nuclear-friendly energy supply policy of Northern France.

Congratulations to Virage-énergie, Winner of the European Solar Prize 2008.
