 EUROSOLAR supports the worldwide campaign of IPPNW Germany at the first anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear disaster beginning March 11, 2012. With your help we want to make it widely known that: the most devastating nuclear accident to happen since the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 was triggered by the earthquake and its mighty aftershocks that shook Japan on March 11, 2011. The fact that the earthquake was able to create such havoc in the nuclear reactor was due to a number of serious long-standing safety defects resulting from the systematic neglect of basic nuclear reactor safety requirements in Fukushima.The nuclear industry would more than welcome a version of events in which the tsunami, rather than the safety defects, was held solely for responsible the disaster. We would then all be able to believe that: "Something like that could not happen to us." With this version-this myth-attention could thus be diverted away from the dangers inherent in the numerous nuclear power stations, which also exhibit serious safety deficits and are currently in service in areas of seismic activity all around the world.
