Hermann Scheer was taken from us at age 66 fully engaged in a life of ideas and initiatives, a life full of many notable achievements. With courage, far-sightedness and determination he significantly influenced the political discourse in the country in many fields. First and foremost he made the shift to renewable energy happen, a shift which he realized early was essential ecologically and for peace-making efforts. He was a thought leader and motivator, reformer and revolutionary.
In his last book, released only a few days before he died, Hermann Scheer defined the necessity of responsible action as the ‘energy imperative’. His political companions’ obligation to the future is, therefore, to unwaveringly advance the switch to renewable energy. Created after his death, the Hermann Scheer Foundation shares the same goal.
The symposium in honor of Hermann Scheer -held on the day of his death one year ago- addresses energy policy questions which present themselves in the course of transitioning to the age of renewable energy. It looks into levels of political decision-making and their effect on the legislative process.
