The first visitors arrived on time at 2 pm on Saturday afternoon in the foyer of the EUROSOLAR office in Bonn. The weather was initially dominated by renewable energies: The sun was shining and a strong wind was blowing. At the beginning of the programme rof. Peter Droege, President of EUROSOLAR, welcomed the guests.

He praised the commitment of the past 30 years, but also made it clear that, in view of the escalating climate crisis, the targets had to be clearly tightened: 'Zero emissions are still too much at the present time, 100 percent renewable energies are still too little,' the President declared forcefully. He was succeeded by Dr. Axel Berg, Chairman of EUROSOLAR Germany. In view of the enormous technological progress, he was optimistic that EUROSOLAR would not need another 30 years to achieve its goal, because renewable energies are becoming cheaper and cheaper, while the continued operation of fossil and nuclear power plants is becoming more and more expensive. Angelica Maria Kappel, Mayor of the City of Bonn, then gave her welcoming address. She emphasized the commitment of the city of Bonn to renewable energies and the good cooperation with EUROSOLAR as annual partner in 2018.

Finally, Irm Scheer-Pontenagel, co-founder, managing director from 1988 - 2015, honorary member of the board and still active editor of the publication SOLARZEITALTER, addressed the guests. Her personal look at the beginnings of the organisation and the movement for renewable energies made clear the special role EUROSOLAR plays as a civic association between all the environmental and industrial associations. To this day, the consistent focus on renewable energies and the independence from EUROSOLAR has borne valuable fruit.

In the following, Mrs Scheer-Pontenagel conducts entertaining interviews with some of the founding members present and long-time companions. Among them EUROSOLAR treasurer Rosa Hemmers, Sigrid Henke, Wolfgang Roth, Christoph Habermann, Franz Alt and Harry Lehmann. All of them were proud and happy to have founded EUROSOLAR together with Hermann Scheer and delighted the audience with their personal memories of the early years and, of course, with the encounter with Hermann Scheer, which left a deep impression on everyone.

Afterwards, the renowned magician of renewables, Francesco Altini, provided amusement with his grip in the bag of tricks. With excellent regional organic food and a glass or two of beer and wine, lively discussions developed about what had been achieved and the challenges ahead. And of course one or two anecdotes were exchanged.

You can find some impressions of the event here.

    EU 4.0 - For a Europe of 100 % Distributed Renewable Energies

From The idea Of The Energy Union... Climate action at the European level is unfocused, ineffective and inadequate. In response, EUROSOLAR has designed transformation measures for the energy system at a much higher implementation scope and level of prioritisation. The actual situation shows that the EU policy as it is currently being implemented would perhaps have had a chance of success a generation ago if it had resulted in a 100 percent renewable reality today. Today the targets must therefore be very different. The targets on which the Commission, the Council and Parliament were able to agree remain far too timid and non-binding to finally put an end to the dominance of fossil nuclear interests. For this reason, EUROSOLAR advocates a New Energy Market Framework, which would make a secure and cost-effective energy supply possible and could accelerate a decentralised energy turnaround.

  • Campaign: "No Stop of the Energy Transition!"

EUROSOLAR Germany published the Campaign "Kein Stopp der Energiewende!" (No Stop of the Energy Transition) in March/April 2016. Thanks to the generous support of the members, the campaign was published in nationwide newspapers in the middle of April. Further information as well as the text in German can be found on the EUROSOLAR-website in German.

The energy transition meets the desire of the majority of our society, secures the future of our innovative economy and creates hundreds of thousands of new jobs. By means of clever public communication on the so-called energy demand, the impression prevails; the renewables are expanded too quickly. In the shadow of this false perception, the Grand Coalition is planning a radical change in their energy policy. Although nearly 90% of the energy demand in Germany (electricity, heat, fuels) is covered by fossil-nuclear energy sources, the expansion of renewable energies, which has been drastically reduced in recent years, is to be frozen at a low level. Even with the deformation of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) in 2014, the addition of solar and biogas plants has dramatically collapsed. If the planned EEG 2016 now also drastically reduces the amount of wind power on land, the energy turnaround is finally stalled.

  • New Energy Market Order (NEMO)

For two decades the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has kept the world drifting in a fog of fatal illusions, led by notoriously diluted, politically contaminated and tactically delayed Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports. The two-degree temperature increase over pre-industrial levels and associated 450 ppm atmospheric CO2 concentration targets promoted at UNFCCC negotiations are scientifically proven to be dangerously high and risk a permanently destabilized climate regime.
