EUROSOLAR works for the rapid and complete removal of nuclear and fossil energies through renewable energies. Support our voice for a dynamic and decentralized energy supply with your membership.

On Sunday, 19 June 2016, the first stone of the first renewable power plant from and for citizens will be laid down in Barcelona. So far 266 people are participating in the project that involves the installation of a wind turbine of shared ownership among citizens who voluntarily provide the money needed to realize the project.

Initiated by the Spanish branch of EUROSOLAR the project "Living from the air of the sky" is promoted and carried out by Eolpop SL, a small private company. Eolpop is responsible for commissioning the project, issuing participatory accounts that enable shared ownership of the turbine, and reaching agreements with the owners of the land and the town council.

Further information can be found on the project website www.viuredelaire.cat/.

Spain is one the world's biggest producer of wind power. Around 21% of the electrity consumption of the population is covered by the annual wind production of more than 50 GWh (numbers from 2014). In 2015, no new capacity was added.

  • Award Ceremony of the European Solar Prize 2017 and Symposium 'The Energy Transition in Europe'

Saturday, 18 November 2017, TU the Sky, Vienna

Promoting the successful implementation of renewable energies – with this intention EUROSOLAR has been honoring cities, municipalities, architects, communal and private companies, associations, organizations and cooperatives, journalists and, of course, citizens who actively support the energy transition with the Solar Prizes for 24 years. Pioneers and leaders are put into the focus of public attention and illustrate how the realistic and practicable use of renewable energy is possible and how it contributes to the complete transformation of the energy system.

Towards the end of each year, the award winners are invited to a celebratory event in a European city. Having previously been held in Prague and Barcelona, this year’s edition of the European Solar Prize will be awarded in Vienna. We are pleased to present this year's award winners together with EUROSOLAR-Austria on Saturday afternoon, 18 November 2017, at Technical University Vienna TU the Sky.

In the morning, a symposium will be held on the topic 'The Energy Transition in Europe'. The speakers will present and discuss potentials and conclusions for a sustainable European energy system in the fields of solar architecture, urban planning, energy economy and energy politics. A visit of the buildings of the Technical University will take place just before the symposium.

We would like to invite you to be part of the award ceremony and the exciting symposium. Both events are free of charge. We look forward to welcome you in Vienna!

  • About the European Solar Prize

The European Solar Prize Award was established in 1994 by EUROSOLAR in cooperation with its national sections. It has since been handed out every year to towns and municipalities, community businesses, associations or organizations, architects, journalists and individuals for their extraordinary accomplishments and significant contributions to the use and expansion of renewable energy in Europe. With the Solar Prize EUROSOLAR recognizes outstanding commitment to renewable energy.

The prize is given to make pioneers and leaders the focus of public attention all over Europe and to give fresh impetus to a renewable energy-based and decentralized energy turnaround. It honors outstanding and innovative projects and initiatives from all parts of society. At the end of each year the award winners are celebrated at a festive gathering in different European countries.
