On 19 September 2016 Josep Puig, Vice-President of EUROSOLAR and President of EUROSOLAR Spain, held a vivid speech at the Comission of Environment and Sustainability of the catalan Parliament in order to contribute to law negotiations regarding climate change.The speech is now available in written form and can be read below.
On Sunday, 19 June 2016, the first stone of the first renewable power plant from and for citizens will be laid down in Barcelona. So far 266 people are participating in the project that involves the installation of a wind turbine of shared ownership among citizens who voluntarily provide the money needed to realize the project.
In Spain, energy policy has prioritised liberalisation and fostered market transparency, the development of energy infrastructure and the promotion of renewable energies, savings, and energy efficiency.
Spain 2020 renewable energy targets:
- Overall target: 22.7% of share of energy generated from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption;
- Heating and cooling: 18.9% of heat consumption met by renewable sources;
- Electricity: 40% of electricity demand met by electricity generated from renewable energy sources;
- Transport: 13.6% of energy demand met by renewable energy sources.
